Day 58 Docking near the Great Lady
Still at the Liberty Harbor Marina. Kevin's parents, Pat and Ed, came by the boat bearing the best bagels in the world. No better breakfast! Had a delightful visit with them - hoping we can hook up again someplace down the line. Kev and Mo joined us for a (sniff, sniff) goodbye lunch at Brownstone Diner which was featured on The Food Channel. The food was out of this world. I can see why it made Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. I must say - these Yankees know how to eat. The weather is getting a little iffy so trying to decide what to do for the rest of the afternoon. - go into the city or hang out here, but meanwhile I have to digress. First, I have to give a nod to the shower in our last marina. (Pic 1 - our Android addicted daughter took the shot) It was a luxurious rain shower that I must have stood under for at least 45 minutes. Now on to today's marina. . . you would think a place that charges $3 a foot to dock just might try to not look like a dump (pic 2), but I guess in the big city, you get what you get. Our neighbors are still going strong. (Pic 3 - through the boat window screen) Picture Soprano men (after they let themselves go) in droopy bathing suits, excessively drinking, arguing, barbecuing and doing group karaoke to 70's music. They've been really hospitable to us - every time we walk their by their boat, they put food or beer in our hands. The party animals have been at it for almost 24 hours straight - I don't know how they are keeping up the pace, but they are having a really good time. When Mo and I asked where they boated to - "Blue" told us, "Oh, no we don't go out on the boat, nobody knows how to drive it. We tried to go to Atlantic City once, but we got scared and turned around. We're gonna hire a captain next time." I guess that's why they charge $3 a foot - this place comes with entertainment! If we can get a weather window, taking off up the Hudson tomorrow.
