Day 23 Yoho

Upon advice of the ranger, we checked out Yoho  National Park today. Just a half hour away from Lake Louise. Rented our canister of bear spray but never needed it. Started with a 4 1/2 mile hike straight up a mountain to Lake Sherbrooke. The smell of  evergreens filled the air as the sounds of the traffic disappeared. On one side of the trail, snow covered mountains peeked through the tall straight trees. On the other side was dense magical forest views. We saw very few people on the way up or down. The reward at the end of the hike was incredible. The tranquil turquoise water was so clear framed by majestic mountains. Later ate our packed lunch at a picnic table on a lake in a tiny town called Field.  Then tried to drive to “the highest waterfall in Canada” but the road was closed half way up (Avalanche??) so we settled for walking around the “Confluence of Two Rivers”. The waters that rush together are a mystical pale milky blue. This process of color happens way above the confluence where glaciers grind and scrape rocks into powdery silt called rock flower. This gives the Yoho River its milky color but the Kicking Horse River is clear until it meets the Yoho. Next we drove to The Natural Bridge where we saw the Kicking Horse River bursting through massive rocks as it rushed down stream. Afterwards we drove back to Lake Louise to return our bear spray, unused, thank you, Lord, and ended the day with burgers at the campsite. Tomorrow we explore the famous Lake Louise and Lake Moraine.
