Day 24 Lake Moraine
We were surprised at how long the shuttle ride was up the mountains to Lake Moraine. It was much cooler when we emerged from the bus. Adventurer Sam Allen named the peaks surrounding the lake 1 through 10 in Stoney Indian numerals and this area is still called the Valley of Ten Peaks. Moraine is a little more intense color than Louise surrounded by more rough, craggy mountains. There’s actually a “secret” glacier hiding at the foot of the mountains covered by debris insulating the ice and slowing the melting process. Walked the Shoreline Trail but not as far. Ate our snack lunch on a log. A little chipmunk almost jumped in John’s lap to grab a bite of his cheese stick. Sat for a long time on different logs just taking in the natural splender of the area. The majesty is overwhelming but so calming. Before we left, we climbed “The Rockpile” to gaze over the whole lake. Lots of stone steps that burn your muscles but what a view. Shuttle took us back down to the truck so we could return to DragOn to rest and reflect.
