Day 24 Lake Louise
We took so many pictures today at Lake Louise and Lake Moraine that I have to spread them over 2 blogs. First, Lake Louise…Took an early morning shuttle to Lake Louise before all the big crowds ventured there. The color of the water is jaw dropping. Fine rock dust, produced by massive glaciers rubbing against bedrock, stays suspended in the clear water giving both lakes their unusual, spectacular turquoise color. The color becomes more brilliant as the glaciers shrink. My pictures speak for themselves; the mountains, the water, the snow, the rocks, the foliage- all combine to take one’s breath away. Took a 3 mile hike along the shoreline on one side to the “beach” at the far end. When we were on our way back, we heard a loud roar, turned around to see an avalanche of snow plowing down one of the mountains. There’s signs everywhere warning an avalanche can happen, but never expected to see one. When it started to get really crowded and the light changed on the lake, we caught the shuttle to Lake Moraine.
