Day 7 WI Adventure Continues

There is a Japanese proverb that says “Happiness is to hold flowers in both hands.” That was certainly the case today. Sara took me to an Amish flower auction while the John’s went to the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. As soon as we entered the Fennemore Auction Barn, our senses were on overload. The air was filled with a combination of marvelous fragrances. The variety of flowers & plants made for a tapestry of magnificent colors. And it was also cold as hell! Sara & her sister-in-law were there to buy; their yards & gardens are magical & bring joy to all who enter. Me? I was there to take in the experience & buy some Amish food products since we are in a camper. Saw so many different plants including the Popcorn Plant. When you rub the leaves, your hand smells exactly like fresh popped pop corn. Incredible! The car ride home was quite aromatic. Afterwards we all drove to a fascinating brewery housed in the Gehlen barn, which is the oldest barn in Iowa dating back to 1839. The beer & cider were tasty but the restored building was the star of the show. After hitting another brewery on the Mississippi & a quick trip to Belleview State Park to take in the view, we ate a delicious dinner at The Mill, another beautifully restored building from 1843. We’ll sleep well tonight.
