Day 11. June 17

Weather was crisp and sunny as we said goodbye to the Little Big Horn. The nearby towns and neighborhoods that we immediately drove through were on the new Crow Indian reservation which is a fairly depressed area. Eventually we were in the Gallatin National Forest with few houses but lots of green hills. Had to make a quick stop for supplies at good ol’ reliable Walmart but by this time it started drizzling. Another 45 minutes got us to Lewis and Clark Cavern State Park in a steady rain. The drive was scenic but temperatures were taking a nose dive the closer we got to our campground. The park encompasses 3,015 acres at an elevation of 4300 feet. Tomorrow we have tickets to explore the cavern which is at 5300 feet. I’m excited to go spelunking; John not so much. After waiting in the car for a while, we decided to bite the bullet and set up camp in the cold rain which has not stopped for the last 4 hours. As I end this blog, it’s 39°. This IS June, right??!! Fortunately, we have heat in our cozy little camper.
