John & Karen’s New Excellent Adventure Day 1 & 2

June 7 & 8. Got off to an early start heading to our nephew’s wedding at Camp Clark, Oregon. We planned on 21 days of traveling & exploring to get there by June 28th. First stop was the Energy Lake Campground in Land Between the Lakes, Kentucky. All went well for an hour when suddenly an entire truck tire appeared in our lane on I40. Traffic to the left & no escape so we drove over dead center. A few thumps but made it over safely…we thought. Pulled over to find it had taken out 3 of our 4 leveling stabilizer jacks. Spent the next hour hitting up RV parts stores to replace the damaged jacks. After finding them, we resumed our trek to the campground. John got some repairs done but needed more parts so it was off to the Cadiz, KY Ace Hardware. Didn’t realize it was the weekend of the Hwy 68 400 Mile Yard Sale. And true to its name, there were garage & yard sales everywhere up & down the highway. Stopped at one multi-vender one on the grounds of a local general store & bought some Blueberry Vanilla Bourbon Jam. Yum. Also stopped at a Mennonite Saturday Market to purchase some “homegrown” tomatoes, fruit & more jam. So cheap & so delicious. John completed his replacement job & the camper is better now than before. Rain was predicted but never saw but a few drops so got in a couple hikes to the river. After 2 days in Kentucky, we have Missouri in our sights.
