The drive along the coasts of Oregon and Washington was spectacular when it wasn’t obscured by thick coastal fog. Beautiful views greeted us as we traveled on the east side of Olympic National Park on Hwy 101 that skirted several waterways like the Hood Canal. Passed through many small towns that hugged the two lane highway that were tempting to stop at but we needed to make it to John Wayne RV Park in Sequim, Washington at a reasonable hour to check in. Turns out John Wayne, the actor, actually bought the 150 acres that our resort sits on. Ethan Wayne, his son, still administers the trust that presently owns the land. Years ago, the Wayne family donated 22 acres that is now the adjacent marina. John Wayne brought his family to the northwest to relax and recuperate spending many summers in Sequim Bay on his boat the Wild Goose, a 136’ former Navy minesweeper. We drove around the town of Sequim after having dinner at a small seafood cafe. We are guests of the Wayne family RV Park for the next 3 days and plan on exploring the Hoh rainforest of Olympic National Park on Tuesday.
