Seas were not as kind as we were hoping for at the start, but eventually they laid down. As we were pulling into Ludington Harbor passing the breakwaters, we spied a boat up on the rocks - an odd place to moor. After we docked, we heard that a charter captain with 7 passengers was trying to come into the harbor. However, fog developed and when he turned on his radar, all of his instruments went blank and he was on the rocks before he could avoid them. That's his story and he's stickin' to it. No one was hurt, miraculously, but the harbor was tied up with emergency vehicles for awhile. Today, they were trying to patch the boat up to get it back on the water. After we docked, we contacted John's mom's cousin, Carol, and her husband, Richard. They graciously changed their plans for the night and came to visit us on the boat, which resulted in a delightful evening. We also got to see the 410' car ferry, the Badger, come back to harbor right across from our marina. It is the last steam ferry that runs on coal in Lake Michigan and is quite a sight in a harbor that's not that large. Originally, this vehicle transported train box cars across the lake. Wish we could stay longer and visit more, but tomorrow we have smooth seas so we are making a long run to Grand Haven. Foul weather is again moving in on Friday.
When are you returning? What route are you traveling for the rest of your trip? What is the weather like? Is Jack enjoying the trip?
