It got pretty stormy today in Grand Haven and throughout Lake Michigan. We had white caps in the harbor and, at one point, the wind just about blew off our bimini. Fortunately, it wasn't damaged. You can see all the seagulls hunkering down on the pilings before the rains came. After the first blow, we walked around this cute, revitalized town, had some lunch then did a bunch of nothing the rest of the afternoon till the second wave of bad weather hit. Pic 2 is the grill where we ate lunch - the red building with all the windows. The next photo is a shot from downtown to the hill behind our boat. They have a spectacular water fountain/light show there every night . . . except it is now only on weekends since Labor Day. Grand Haven started out as a fur trading center but later became a hub for logging, lumber and shipping and eventually became a ship building center. Piece of trivia - the first bank robbery committed by the infamous Baby Face Nelson was . . . yup, here in Grand Haven. We're watching NOAA and all the weather sites to see if we are moving tomorrow. We heard from some sailors that came in late today that the seas were "like 5 or 6 foot". A little too rough for a trawler. The upside is that if we get stuck in port another day, we get to see the water show on the hill. (Congrats to Kathy and Ryan who are expecting their first baby BlueJay to the nest.)
