Day 179 Santa Rosa Sound Anchorage
Haven't seen this many peaceful, scenic anchorages since Ontario, so we are taking advantage of them. Boated 17 miles to Big Sabine Point in Santa Rosa Sound. Passed Ft. Pickens (pic 1) which was on the next strip of land. The fortress was completed in 1934 and was one of only four southern forts that wasn't occupied by Confederate forces. Because of advances in weaponry, the facility was closed by WWII. It was re-opened in 1976 as a national park. Crossed Pensacola Bay then the sound with no chop . Again, it was almost seamless blue from bay to sky. Only one other trawler at our new anchorage on this long stretch of dunes and beaches. Weather was a little cooler today with the additional cloud coverage, still delightful, but a precursor to the cold front that's approaching. Just chilled on the hook all day. Trying to decide where to go next to ride out this pesky polar vortex.
