Day 180 Blue Water Bay Marina
It's been such a treat to have our choice of beautiful anchorages, but today we head to a marina to ride out the impending polar vortex front. The sunrise was magnificent and the ICW was flat as we left Big Sabine - a mild chilly wind, but tolerable. After we got underway, I was making the bed and heard water slapping against the side of the boat. As I went out the door to see what was up, I was splashed in the face by a dolphin leaping out of the water almost as high as the rail. As it went back under, it turned and eyed me mischievously, then did it again. I grabbed the iPad to get tons of shots of the performing porpoise and its buddy rolling, swimming on their backs, and leaping over our wake. We never tire of watching these amazing mammals. I guess it didn't get tired of us either since it swam in our wake for over 10 miles. Passed a Navy radar tracking tower . . . or that's what we speculated that it was. Very interesting looking structure. Lots of military testing facilities in this area near Eglin AFB. Scores of dolphins played around our boat as we crossed Choctahatchee Bay to our marina. We were the only game in town, I guess, since we spied no more than 1 tow and 4 small fishing boats out on the water today. It turned out to be a beautiful day by lunchtime, but maybe everybody is already hunkering down for the coming inclement weather?? The marina is not fancy, but has a good feeling about it. After getting settled, I panko fried the rest of Burke's wonderful redfish, then we headed over to the marina Key West style bar for delicious raw oysters and beer. Borrowed the courtesy car to replenish supplies and now we are hunkered down too.
