Winter definitely made it's appearance at Bluewater Bay in the city of Niceville. As beautiful as it was, it's now 180 degrees the opposite. A fog is scampering along the water surface because the bay is warmer than the frigid air. Since we had no desire to be out in the weather, we borrowed the courtesy car Jeep to take a ride around the area. We could write a book on the variety of courtesy cars we've had in marinas, and by comparison, this is one of the better ones EXCEPT that the heat is broken. However, it took us to Destin Beach - very touristy, then to Santa Rosa Beach on the Gulf - very cute village. We ate lunch at Stinky's which was not at all stinky. Their special today was a delicious shrimp and fish gumbo that was piping hot and a little spicy with a dark roux - a perfect day for it. Stopped at Publix...because we can. Bought a couple of necessities, then headed back to the marina before we lost total feeling in our extremities from the cold. The casual open air marina bar is so tempting here, we decided to go to happy hour again...with the windows down and the heat on. Met an amiable local veteran and talked Hatterases. There's a lot of retired and active military who live around here with the bases. Glad we are hooked up to shore power so we can run the heat all night. Tomorrow we will explore Niceville.
