Day 184 Panama City

Had a leasurely Sunday morning. Didn't really get moving till 10:30...because we didn't have to. Nowhere to go today, just waiting for the bad weather to hit. It was really cloudy in the morning, but around lunchtime, the skies cleared and it turned into a gorgeous day. Sara, Kathy and I walked to the old downtown for groceries while the guys worked on the boats. Panama City was originally called Floriopolis in the early 1800's, then it was renamed Harrison. In 1909, a developer, George West, gave the town its present name because it was on a direct line between Chicago and Panama City, Panama, in Central America. The name change took place during the building of the Panama Canal, as a way to link the area to an ongoing media interest, in hopes of promoting real estate development in Bay County. The city marina is very comfortable and has a nice view of St. Andrews Bay. In the parking lot overlooking the bay is a 9/11 memorial. There's benches around the center piece that commemorates each plane that went down that tragic day. As I was walking around getting pictures for the blog, I could smell the faint odor of paper mills.  I forgot that industry was around here and there's one right down the way on the water. Heading to "Club Free Bird", as Sara calls it, to watch her beloved Packers beat the Eagles. Not sure we can root for Green Bay now that Morgan is living in Pennsylvania! Estrellita is suppose to arrive tonight to add to the Looper fun as we all wait to see how the front affects our travels.
