Day 187 Are we in Alaska or Apalachicola??

Woke up to a nice warm cabin since we left the heater on all night. Otherwise, we would have been popsicles this morning. Left our slip early to get to Water Street Marina in Apalachicola. It's a hotel with a marina so this will be a little different from what we are use to. Couldn't get in to any other facility because Loopers are piling up in the next couple ports since there are no good crossing weather windows. We are going to bounce down the coast, but the majority of Loopers are spending the winter in mid and south Florida and need to get to their temporary home slips. The sailboats went on the outside to Port St. Joe, so we are only traveling with Serenity. The landscape was thick marshland with a lot of erosion going on. The canal was very narrow through the impenetrable swamp and continued being that way across Lake Wimico. That little break in the trees in the second photo is where we were heading. As we crossed the lake, we disturbed thousands of ducks on the water. I assume this was their warm southern destination after flying from northern regions. I bet they are wondering - what the hell?! Did we take the wrong turn?! In the foreground of the third pic, the fowl are flying out of our way, but look closely and you'll see tons of specs which are birds all the way to shore. It was like that in every direction. Amazing! Later in the afternoon, we passed a houseboat - literally a house on a boat. Love it - I could live in that. Made it to Apalachicola around 3 after passing back into our old time zone. Beach House and TaTa already at the marina/hotel. Right after paying, we headed for Papa Joe's for oysters and beer. Will let you know how good they were tomorrow. We are staying put for 2 days.
