Day 141 Golf carting in Grand Rivers

Brrrrrrr! Woke up to 41 degrees per the Weather Channel AP. There was an eery fog like mist dancing across the water. Dressed warmly and decided to rent a golf cart to see the little village up the hill, Grand River. The settlement was originally known as The Narrows back in the 1870's, but then it was formally incorporated in 1890 as Grand Rivers. This newly named community was part of a local businessman's attempt to develop local iron deposits into a major steel industry. The enterprise failed within a few years, but the little settlement remained. The town name refers to the Cumberland and Tennessee rivers which previously met near the site, prior to the TVA's creation of Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. The Tennessee's confluence with the Ohio is located within 40 miles of the town as well. Snooped in a few neat shops, bought a braided rug, then stopped for lunch at Mr. Bill's. This restaurant complex is like a Kentucky version of the old Sunken Gardens. Besides good food, they had stores, a wedding chapel, gardens, fountains, a water wheel and assorted animals like an alpaca, turkey, Shetland pony and a healthy looking pig. The waitresses wore long dresses from the 1800's. Quite a tourist stop for a little town. Golf carted around the neighborhood till we were significantly cold then headed over to the "beach". They actually have a nice one here on the lake. Will have to try it out next Loop. . . in July maybe. Going to get some soup later at the yacht club for Carol and Frank's last night here. BYOB - Frank's favorite black cherry rum.
