Day 152 Last Rainy Day in Pebble Isle

So our question whether to boat or not to boat was answered when we woke up to the pitter patter of raindrops on the deck. It was cloudy, cold and misting all day - not fun boating weather so we stayed in New Johnsonville one last day. John needed to run to town to renew a prescription and mail a card, so we headed for Waverly, which consists of Walmart, CVS, a couple schools and not much else. We stopped at a health food store that turned into a religious experience - not a religion I wanted to join, but they had dried fruit and raw nuts so all was not lost. While waiting for John to get a free flu shot in CVS, I noticed that camouflage is the new black in Tennessee. On our way back to the marina, we stopped at the Johnsonville Battle Museum and Park Center - a new, well done, informative facility nestled in the forest near the battlefield. Tennessee has a lot of Civil War history. Gen. Nathan Forest was the officer in command who won the Confederate victory here. Because he was a self-made soldier starting as a private and finally achieving the rank of general by the end of the war, he is considered one of the most successful military officers. The north feared him and Sherman pronounced him " the most remarkable man our Civil War produced on either side." If he hadn't peaked so late, our federal capital might have been Richmond instead of Washington DC. Also displayed were some beautifully handcrafted Civil War reproduction quilts made with material patterns used during that period. If I knew how to sew, were artistic, and had infinite patience, I would love to quilt, but alas I don't, so I write. Couple more Loopers came in to dock after Untide and Surveyor left this morning. As Annie says - the sun'll come up tomorrow. And that's when we are heading back on the Tennessee River.
