Day 148 On the Hook in Panther Bay
No rain today, just gray and cold. Temperature is not that low, but it's down into your bones type cold. Left our serene anchorage early to find another like-kind one. And John did. Went 30 miles up river to Dry Fork Creek in Panther Bay. We are .3 miles outside of Tennessee. Since it was an easy drive, we steered from down below so we wouldn't freeze. Even Jack stayed inside except when he wandered out on deck to lick the alien pod slime. Maybe aliens taste like chicken. Decided to make a "comfort food" dinner of meatloaf and potatoes. I bought this interesting cloth pouch in Havana and the little old lady that made it instructed me to put 2 potatoes in it and microwave for 5 minutes. She guaranteed that they would be baked perfectly and taste like they came out of the oven - and she was right. Not sure how it works, but it works - an efficient and tasty discovery. The fall colors continue to amaze us - gold and oranges from a Florida sunset and brick street red from a downtown alley somehow blending with an infinite variety of shades of greens. God's canvas. This area is suppose to have all kinds of wildlife. Searched the shores with binoculars all afternoon. Spied some huge herons, magnificent white pelicans, turkey buzzards, and a fisherman dressed from head to toe in camouflage driving a bright red boat. I assume he doesn't drive his boat when he hunts. Ended the evening listening to some very emotional sportscasters excitedly announcing small town college Kentucky football. Thank goodness their team won. We will take off early for Pebble Isle Marina so we will have safe harbor with the upcoming storms that are moving this way.
