Day 150 Tornadoes in Tennessee
We knew storms were coming so we prepared for the worst and hoped for the best. We ended up somewhere in between. First thing we did was a supply run to Walmart. We took some scenic winding roads into town. When we got back, took down the bimini, put on extra lines and covers, then waited for the gray day to turn hostile. In true Florida style, the neighboring boat from Ft. Lauderdale said he was having tornado (instead of a hurricane) docktails at 5pm. Unfortunately, that's exactly when the tornadoes started to touch down in New Johnsonville. The marina evacuated us off the docks to the cement bathroom/showers which was safer than our boats. Jack's eyes were as big as saucers as John carried him to safety. One of the marina workers, Billy Joe, who lives in a double wide ( I swear) near here got hit, but didn't do any damage. He said his neighbors got some, but not him. He sent his family to a safe house, put on his motor cycle helmet and pads and stayed with the trailor. He is quite a story teller. Three tornadoes touched down, but no one got hurt from what we heard. Later when the rains let up a little, we took our neighbor, Tom on Bangledash, up on his offer for drinks on his 54' Hatteras. Beautiful boat. Suppose to storm all night, but the major threat has passed when we hit the sack.
